Are you a Toe or a Liver?

We've been talking.

This is what I think:

Noses love fragrant flowers and feet love foot rubs.  A nose might be offended by a foot rub, the stench, ya know.  A foot probably wouldn't appreciate the flower at all.  However, a contented foot will be more willing to lead the nose closer to the flower.  A happy nose can help the feet find their path.

I Don't Understand...

What do you look for when determining someone's age?

1. Size- Babies come in relatively small packages.  They tend to grow at a somewhat predictable rate.  Size is one way to determine age, however, since everyone grows at an individual rate, this is only one general way to determine age.

2. Body Maturity- Bodies mature in different ways.  Boys get broader shoulders, more muscular limbs, facial hair, deeper voices.  Girls get curves.  Granted, not everyone is a curvy as the rest, and some are curvier than others, but still, there are some assets that a 15 year old has that a 9 year old does not.  Similarly, older people have more wrinkles, saggier skin, thinner limbs, lighter colored hair, etc.  The state of the body is another way to determine age.  This is a little more specific than #1.

3. Emotional/Social Maturity- How people act can help determine their age.  If a person throws a tantrum, they're probably younger.  If someone can carry on a conversation with you about less material and more theoretical things (and you are an adult) than they are probably older.  How comfortable a person is with their body, their grace or poise is another way to determine their age.

4. Education- The amount of education a person has can often give huge hints about their age.  Please note that this will probably look like a bell curve, and both institutional education as well as life experience must be considered.  If an individual can converse on a variety of topics, such as a broad range of literary works, they are probably older.

5. Position- If someone is employed at a respectable business or organization, then they are probably old enough to work, legally.  If a person knows the ins and outs of said workplace, they've probably been employed there for a while.  The higher their position at the workplace, the older they usually are.

This is just a handy guide to help the general public determine someone's age.  If you aren't sure, it's better to treat the person like an adult (unless you are hitting on a minor).  It's much less embarrasing than finding out you've been treating an adult like a child.

IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO ASK SOMEONE THEIR AGE OUTRIGHT.  IF YOU DON'T KNOW THIS ALREADY, THEN YOUR MAMA WENT WRONG SOMEWHERE.  NEVER EVER EVER ASK A STRANGER THEIR AGE UNLESS YOU ARE A BOUNCER AT A CLUB OR THE ANSWER WILL CHANGE HOW YOU CONDUCT BUSINESS.

To make several long stories short, I've been asked at least 5 times in the past 4 days how old I am by people I've never met before.  It's really not any of their business.  It's worse when they want to argue about it with me.
